The Young Political Leadership School Africa Anti-Drugs Dialogue 2020.

As part of the global intervention to eradicate illicit drugs trafficking and abuse especially by young people which is a threat to peace and democracy on the continent, the Young Political Leadership School Africa Alumni is hosting on Friday, June 26, 2020 at 1:00 pm via zoom; a regional panel discussion to highlight the effects of drugs abuse and illicit trafficking on the continent and what could be the policy recommendations to eradicate the illicit trafficking and abuse. Speakers are expected to highlight challenges and recommendations with specific countries’ prospective.

According to UN statistics, 37,000 people in Africa die annually from diseases associated with the consumption of illegal drugs. The UN estimates there are 28 million drug users in Africa, the figure for the United States and Canada is 32 million.

There are so many issues confronting Africa that substance abuse is not looked at as it should be. Both illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse are increasing in Africa. Cannabis, methaqualone, heroin, and alcohol are included among the drugs used across the African continent.
