Our Capacity Building Programs:
Young Political Leadership School Africa (YPLSA):
The Young Political Leadership School Africa (www.yplsa.org) is committed to empowering a new cadre of ethical and dynamic youth leaders who will transform Africa’s political and economic landscape.
With strategic partnerships, inclusive programming, and a results-driven approach, the program aims to deepen the movement for youth-led governance and economic growth across the continent.
The program has become one of Africa’s leading political leadership development platforms, equipping youth with the competencies to lead in democratic spaces.
YPLS Africa has seen some good results. YPLSA has trained over 1,130 young leaders from eight African countries. Alumni have achieved remarkable impact. 13 have contested parliamentary seats, six served as junior ministers in past government in Liberia, seven currently working in the Liberian government and playing active roles in politics and leadership.
Beyond Liberia, YPLS Africa’s impact is evident across the continent. In Namibia, an alumna was elected as Assistant Mayor, demonstrating the program’s influence on local governance. In Nigeria, two alumni were appointed as Senior Special Assistant and Executive Assistant Director in the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Citizenship.
Additionally, an alum from Ghana secured a seat in the Local Assembly Elections, further highlighting the program’s success in nurturing leaders who are making tangible contributions to governance at various levels. More information about the YPLSA can be found here.
The Young Women Political Empowerment, Mentorship and Leadership Program:
This project is building an enabling environment for young women to participate in politics by: increasing community and civic understanding of gender equality and women’s right to political participation, building young women technical capacity to mobilize resources to fund campaigns and participate in political decision-making; providing mentorship support for young women to pursue political leadership opportunities; and supporting women to build political alliances and networks across sectors and beyond national boundaries.
75 emerging women leaders from across the 15 counties of Liberia, 5 per county have been empowered and are progressing in their counties from the project.
