Naymote’s governance programs aim to promote transparent, accountable, and inclusive leadership at all levels. By engaging citizens, elected officials, and local authorities, we foster participatory decision-making, strengthen local government administration, and ensure that public policies respond effectively to community needs.
Our work helps bridge the gap between citizens and government, ensuring leaders are more responsive and accountable to the people they serve.
We connect citizens with decision-makers, track government performance, and promote participatory decision-making to ensure that public policies respond effectively to community needs.
Our Governance Programs:
Presidential Performance Tracking (President Meter):
Naymote political accountability interventions have extended its impact beyond merely tracking and documenting promises and performance to fostering a culture of accountability, active citizen engagement, and informed decision making in governance under the President Meter.
This initiative since 2016 aims to fortify the social contract between the people and their elected president. This innovative project addresses the increasing demand for elected presidents to fulfil the promises made during and after their campaigns.
During this reporting period, the institution published the president’s performance report under the President Meter Project, which covers promises made during and after the 2023 elections. This research and publication initiative serves the purpose of advancing political accountability.
In 2024, we tracked 119 promises under the ARREST agenda of President Joseph N. Boakai and his government, which revealed 3% completed, 59% ongoing, 14% not started, and 24% unrated due to limited data. Findings engaged over 100,000 citizens and influenced government priorities.
The President Meter Project (PMP) has been widely received by both citizens and political stakeholders. Citizens and opposition parties are using PMP reports to demand more public goods and services from the Government.
Legislative Accountability Project:
Modeled after the President Meter initiative, this project monitors and tracks the campaign promises of 12 lawmakers across five counties, including: Montserrado, Bong, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, and River Gee. Its goal is to promote transparency, strengthen legislative accountability, and provide citizens with credible information to foster constructive engagement between lawmakers and their constituents.
Legislative Monitoring/ Legislative Internship Program:
The institution monitors and report on the activities of the Liberian Legislature, aimed at promoting legislative openness. This legislative monitoring project report provides information that citizens may use in advancing accountability, particularly in engaging with their elected representatives, and encourages Legislative responsiveness as well.
Through its Legislative Internship Program, Naymote promotes openness and accountability within the Liberian Legislature. The program trains and deploys interns to the House of Representatives and the Liberian Senate to observe legislative processes, track performance, and document key developments.
Insights from this monitoring are published in regular reports, equipping citizens with reliable information to hold lawmakers accountable and strengthen engagement between lawmakers and their constituents.
In 2024, a rigorous monitoring of the performance of the 55th legislature of Liberia and their legislative engagements was led by six (6) legislative interns/monitors recruited, trained and assigned at the House of Representatives and Liberian Senate.
Interns participated in legislative processes, observed sessions, public hearings, committee meetings, conducted proper research, documentation, monitoring and tracking of legislative works and submitted weekly and monthly individual reports to Naymote management.
The output of this exercise is a legislative monitoring report that provides information that citizens use in advancing accountability, particularly in engaging with their elected representatives.
Strategic Ambition:
To foster a transparent, accountable, and participatory governance ecosystem in Liberia where local and national leaders deliver on promises by responding effectively to citizens’ needs, and communities are empowered to actively engage in shaping policies and holding public institutions accountable.
