Naymote Partners for Democratic Development has intensifies its awareness on local governance and accountability. These events were designed to improve public resource management and reduce corruption by making public servants and political leaders accountable to their people.
NAYMOTE believes engaging citizens in local governance improves accountability and the ability of local authorities to solve problems, creates more inclusive and cohesive communities, and increases the number and quality of initiatives made by communities.
These events were held in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County and Gbarnga, Bong County and brought together 60 participants including local government officials, the project management committee chairs, media, youth, women leaders and people with disabilities. These events deepened participants understanding on the County Budget process, management of the County Social Development Funds and operation of the County Service Centers.
The District Commissioner of Tchien S.K. Sobue Wulu said the dialogue is key to them because it educates citizens about the implementations of projects made during the County Council sitting, but said since 2019-2020 budget year no development ongoing in his district.
The Chairman of the Project Management Committee in Bong, Mr. Stephen Mulbah and Coordinator of the Bong County Service Center, Mr. Jefferson Gbaryan appreciated NAYMOTE for the continue engagement of citizens and the various local structures, they believe this will promote transparency and accountability and overcome mismanagement or fake news.
This is the seventh edition of our local governance strengthening engagements in Montserrado, Bong and Grand Gedeh with support from National Endowment for Democracy.
